Summer is in full swing, and even throughout lockdown, there are lots of us who have taken solace in eating well, exercising and looking after our bodies. It’s the perfect time to hit your goals and push yourself, particularly when you have a bit more time on your hands.

Of course, you need to do more than just exercise regularly to hit your body goals, but make sure you’re eating well, and THAT’S WHERE BOZU COMES IN We’ve got a wide selection of fresh, healthy and seasonal meals on our menu to help you feel good about what you eat. In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at some of the seasonal meals we have and how you can make the most out of the treats that summer has to offer!

SUMMER BERRIES

Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and cherries are all in season in the summer, which is fantastic news for your body. PACKED WITH ANTIOXIDANTS, FIBRE, MINERALS AND VITAMINS YOUR BODY NEEDS TO STAY STRONG AND BALANCED, these fresh summer fruits make a perfect snack, side dish or treat on a hot day.

Try our breakfast protein pancakes or waffles which come with delicious fresh fruit, or give one of our organic juices a try for nutrition on the go!

FRESH FISH

Tuna, despite us seeing it canned on the supermarket shelves year-round, is actually only in season for around five months of the year. In the UK, that’s from May to September, give or take, so summer is the perfect time to really take advantage of this superfood. Other fish like salmon and seafood like scallops and crab are also at the peak of their season in the summer months.

Tuna is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and potassium, making it great for your heart and blood pressure. OMEGA-3 HELPS REDUCE CHOLESTEROL IN THE ARTERIES WHILE POTASSIUM IS AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY, and some research shows that it can lower your risk of stroke and heart attack! As well as this, tuna is rich in vitamins and minerals like zinc, selenium, manganese and vitamin C, which can help boost your immune system and keep you healthy all year round.

Tuna, salmon and other seafood is also often low in fat and high in protein, making it perfect for those of you looking to build muscle.

POTATOES

We’re reaching the end crop of new potatoes as summer draws to a close, but also seeing the start of maincrop potatoes ready to be harvested! New potatoes have a delicate and sweeter flavour with a slightly creamier texture than their regular counterparts. They’re harvested earlier in the year but come from the same plant at the end of the day.

One of the oldest foods in our diet today, potatoes have been a staple for millennia, and it’s pretty easy to see why. Starchy and carby, they’re great for keeping you full for a very long time and fuelling your body through your workout. They’re NATURALLY GLUTEN-FREE AND CONTAIN HIGH LEVELS OF VITAMIN C, VITAMIN B6 AND POTASSIUM, as well as antioxidants, which some research suggests may reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers. They also contain resistant starch, which has been linked to increased blood sugar control and improved digestive health by providing nutrition to your positive gut bacteria.

You can try a whole bunch of our fantastic meals with lightly and deliciously seasoned potatoes on the side, like our spicy jerk chicken, steak mince or Piri Piri chicken. Or, try dishes like buffalo steak and veggie pakora, with our crispy and flavourful potato wedges.
